Tattoo Procedure

Tattoo Procedure

The process is divided into four main stages.

This page explains each stage in detail.

  • Pre-session consultation
  • Review the design draft
  • Tattoo session
  • Completion

Pre-session consultation

Before scheduling your tattoo session, you will book a consultation with your tattoo artist.

Because a tattoo stays with you for life, take the time to discuss the design details and your requests thoroughly with your artist.

  • Size
  • Overall look and feel
  • Reference designs
  • Placement, and more

At THE INK, we also take the time to answer your questions and address any concerns.

During the consultation, we will confirm your session date, and your artist will create a custom design based on what you discussed.

Same-day sessions may also be available. Please contact us or stop by the studio.

Review the design

Based on what you discussed during the pre-session consultation, your artist will create a design proposal.
We will send the draft to you via LINE for review.

Once the design matches what you had in mind, all that remains is to come in on the day of your session.

Design revisions are generally free of charge. If there is anything you would like changed, please let us know.

Tattoo session

Once you have reviewed the precautions and signed the consent form…
it is time for your tattoo session.

Your artist will apply the stencil and confirm the placement with you before beginning.

Important notes for the day of your session

  • Please wear black clothing or clothes you do not mind getting stained, in case ink or ink-containing bodily fluids come into contact with them.
  • We cannot tattoo anyone who is under the influence of alcohol. Please avoid drinking the night before and on the day of your session.
  • We cannot tattoo skin that is inflamed due to sunburn, atopic dermatitis, an allergic reaction, or a similar condition. Avoid activities that may damage your skin close to your appointment date.
  • Tattooing may feel more painful when you are hungry or sleep-deprived. We recommend eating well and getting enough sleep before coming to THE INK Harajuku.
  • If you have allergies or any other concerns, please feel free to ask us. Depending on your circumstances, we may recommend consulting a medical professional.

If you are concerned about pain, please see THE INK’s page about anesthetic cream.

During your session at THE INK, we help you receive your tattoo as safely and comfortably as possible by providing:

  • Appropriate breaks
  • Consideration for your comfort and pain level
  • Checks for any changes in how you feel

We make these a priority throughout your session. If you begin to feel unwell or notice any other change, please tell your artist immediately.

Completion

Once the session is over, your one-of-a-kind tattoo is complete.

However, proper care is still essential after the session.

Your tattoo will require care for one to two weeks after the session.
For details, see THE INK’s official tattoo care guide.

Summary

That is the full process from consultation to a completed tattoo.
We hope this guide helps you feel ready to begin your tattoo journey.
